Diwali
Diwali is an Indian festival also known as the Festival of Lights. People in India
and Nepal celebrate it at the end of the Hindu calendar year which usually falls in October
or November.
Diwali is a national holiday in India and Nepal and
celebration can last for five days. The fourth day of Diwali marks the start of
the New Year and is considered the most important day of the festival.
Diwali is a time for lighting
lamps and dias; and for praying for good health, peace and wisdom. It is a happy
time when children may light fireworks; adults buy new clothes and give gifts
and sweets to family and friends.
During Diwali devotees pray
to Mother Lakshmi, the Hindu Goddess of wealth, for prosperity, good health and
happiness in the coming year.

want to try.

celebrate? Write some sentences about your favourite festival.

You can work with a partner
for this task. Ask your partner the questions below and write down their
answers.

Having recently celebrated or heard of Thanksgiving, you may be wondering what it all means. Well, here are some answers:

Status: It is a statutory holiday.
Meaning: It’s a day to be thankful for the good things in our lives.
How celebrated: With family and a large, delicious meal.
Main part of the meal: Turkey
